ABOUT ME...AND TUPPERWARE

When I decided to start selling Tupperware in 2006, it was only to fill in the gaps between my projects as an independent public relations and marketing consultant and freelance writer. I liked the products but in no way did I see myself as a party-pushing Tupperware Lady. In fact, my plan was to sell Tupperware online and not even tell my friends, because I thought they would either laugh at me or gossip that I must really need the money.

I left my corporate PR and marketing job more than five years ago, mostly because I was discouraged by the environment: Long hours chasing a constantly moving target with no thanks for getting the job done right, and plenty of arrows aimed at you for the smallest oversight. When the goal of the day is to not get fired, support and encouragement are unaffordable luxuries.

That experience left me cynical and convinced that I would never return to a traditional office job. When I joined Tupperware, I had no expectations of a work environment. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the following:

  • No games: Selling Tupperware, attending meetings and training are all optional. I will not get branded for not being a team player.

  • Whether I sell one set of bowls or 10,000, the effort is appreciated and recognized. When people take time to notice even the smallest success, it triggers something basic to human behavior: You want to achieve more.

  • I control my work schedule, it doesn't control me. I have the freedom to live my life and to make time for what is important to me.

  • Passed over for a promotion? Not here. There are no politics, no barriers, no quotas, no cluster of snarky co-workers wondering what you did to get promoted and nobody waiting for you to fail. Instead, you get clapping and cheering, topped off with free Tupperware, jewelry, all-expenses paid trips and cars.

  • About the free stuff: Imagine being in the traditional workplace, and every time you attend a meeting, you get a prize, just for showing up. You get another prize because you arrived on time. You get yet another prize because you met a goal (imagine what happens if you exceed a goal!). At the meeting, instead of your boss outlining your upcoming project and grimly suggesting what awful thing might happen if you fail, your boss says, I know you can do this and I will give a cash bonus to everybody who reaches this goal! The only consequence of not meeting the goal? You will not have extra money in your pocket. If I did not reach the goal, it was because I chose not to pursue it. Maybe I was busy with my family that week, or with projects around the house.

But, you say, Yeah, but selling Tupperware? That’s not me. I did not think it was me, either. But the more I learn about the company, and the more I see that the rewards are real and achievable, not just some far-out promise, I become more convinced that the company is a good fit for the way I think and the way I like to work.

If you need hard facts and a business perspective consider this: Tupperware is one of the most successful and most recognized brands in the world and it is a publicly traded, stable and profitable corporation.

On the softer side: If a job with unlimited flexibility, encouragement, training, support and opportunities for advancement, not to mention free products, jewelry, trips and cars sounds good to you, give me a call.
